Nutrition Coaching at THRIVE

The food you eat can be either the safest and most powerful form of medicine or the slowest form of poison.”

– Ann Wigmore

Food can be a powerful form of medicine. What we eat and drink affects every function of our bodies. When prepared properly, whole foods can have a profound effect on our overall health and wellness – mind, body, and spirit. This is a principle of integrative health, a discipline that blends the best of conventional and alternative therapies and focuses on the individual as a whole instead of on isolated symptoms.

Nutrition and Mental Health

The food we eat affects our mood, behavior, and mental health. Food and chemicals in our brain and nervous systems interact and play a role in how we feel. Improper nutrition can limit the availability of specific nutrients we need for our brains and bodies to thrive.

Benefit of Whole Foods

Our relationship with food is complex. It is the one thing we all require for survival and is also linked to memories, emotions, and cultural nuances. From time to time, we all need help discovering how food can enhance our lives, health, and well-being.

We believe a diet rich in whole foods is the foundation of health and wellness and is what the body needs to THRIVE and find its healing path. Adopting a whole foods diet can support you in many ways.

  • Whole foods are rich in phytochemicals (powerful nutrients found in plant foods)
  • Whole foods contain far more vitamins and minerals than processed foods
  • The combinations of nutrients in whole foods play a synergistic role in protecting you from disease while optimizing cell function

  • Establish habits of healthy eating
  • Design meal plans that meet your unique needs (such as weight loss, food sensitivities or allergies)
  • Demystify food labels and dietary supplements
  • Better manage your medical conditions
  • Help prevent diet and nutrition-related illnesses (such as heart disease and diabetes)
  • Increased ease with meal planning and food preparation
  • Nutritional supplementation as a complementary method to healing

What to Expect During a Consultation

We will gather information about your present state of health through an interview process and by using assessment tools. You will be asked about your health history and review lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise. During this time, you will have the opportunity to set goals for wellness and we will develop a multifaceted plan to help you reach optimal health.

Our nutrition educator is here to help you make sense out of diet claims in the media, your eating practices, and help with deciphering food labels and dietary supplements. We can design meal plans catered to your specific needs to help better manage your medical conditions and prevent nutrition-related illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes. We do this by assisting you in adopting lifestyle changes that can improve your energy and vitality.

Our goal in emphasizing healthy lifestyle changes and self-care is to develop a deeper connection between your body and the food you eat.

Relationship of Nutrition and Other Medical Care

We address the whole person on many different levels of functioning – physical, psychological, spiritual – and believe that nutrition therapy is highly effective when used in conjunction with other health-promoting practices. We work closely with your physicians, mental health providers, and other healing practitioners.
