The THRIVE Center for Emerging Young Adults

Meet Michael Stahly, M.A., LGSW

Michael StahlyIn my work as a psychotherapist, I seek to help people understand themselves and their relationships more fully. My approach to therapy is grounded in Relational Theory, which calls us to be courageous and genuine in our interactions in order to cultivate deeper awareness of ourselves and others.

I draw on a deep well of personal experience with mindfulness and self-discipline in my capacity as a long-time martial arts instructor and an active practitioner. More recently, I traveled to India to study a traditional form of yoga, and to become a certified teacher.

In addition to practicing individual and family therapy, I have a particular passion for group work. I believe this modality adds an essential dimension to the work of therapy, which needs to address the person as a whole.

I received my training as a clinical social worker at the University of Maryland, where I also completed my undergraduate study in mathematics and Spanish literature. Prior to finding my path as a therapist, I completed a master's degree in philosophy from St. John's College in Annapolis.

I truly believe in the power of psychotherapy to help us live richer, more connected lives.
