Meet Joanna Balz Hokama, M.S., CNS, LDN

Joanna Balz HokamaJoanna Balz Hokama, MS, CNS, LDN, is a board-certified Licensed Nutritionist and Certified Nutrition Specialist whose professional interests include nutrition and the role it plays in supporting mental health.

She believes the food we eat directly affects how well (or unwell) we feel, and that many of us could improve our overall health and wellness with a better diet that emphasizes natural, whole, and organic foods.

This philosophy is based on the principles of integrative health, a discipline that blends the best of conventional and alternative therapies, and focuses on the individual as a whole instead of on isolated symptoms. In order to thrive, our physical, psychological, and social well-being needs to be equally supported.

An opponent of fad diets, Joanna works with clients to make lifestyle changes that promote healthy, long-term results. She understands that what one person defines as "being healthy" is different from another person's definition and works diligently to create custom nutrition plans that reflect the needs and goals of every individual.

Joanna obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and her masters degree in Nutrition and Integrative Health from Maryland University of Integrative Health (formerly Tai Sophia Institute).

A Maryland native, Joanna shares a home with her husband and four (yes, four) dogs, where she spends her free time cooking, tending to her organic garden, or training for her next half marathon.
